What is Sugar Paper?
Sugar Paper is a coarse recycled paper with an unglazed surface, supplied in a range of colours and thicknesses.
From a packaging point of view, it is mainly used when a textured coloured paper is needed for wrapping, interleaving, presentation layers, product separation, or lightweight protective use.
It has a natural, matt finish rather than a glossy surface, which gives packaging a softer, more understated look.
Key Benefits and Performance
Sugar Paper is useful for packaging projects where colour, texture, and light handling performance matter.
The unglazed surface gives it a tactile feel, while the recycled paper content makes it a practical choice for simple presentation and protective packaging applications.
- Coarse recycled paper with a natural, textured finish for packaging that needs a less polished look.
- Unglazed surface for a matt appearance and good handling feel.
- Available in a range of colours for product presentation, colour coding, and brand-led packaging details.
- Available in 85 gsm to 300 gsm for lightweight wrapping through to thicker insert or divider applications.
- Easy to cut, fold, layer, and wrap for simple packaging conversion.
- Recycled paper base for packaging where a more natural paper option is preferred.
Common Uses and Limitations
Sugar Paper is commonly used in packaging for coloured wrapping, product interleaving, layer separation, presentation sheets, lightweight inserts, sleeve details, and simple protective layers.
It works well when packaging needs a coloured paper finish without a coated or glossy surface.
- Coloured wrapping paper
- Product interleaving
- Layer sheets
- Presentation packaging
- Lightweight inserts
- Product separation
- Colour-coded packaging layers
Sugar Paper is not usually suited to wet, greasy, chilled, or outdoor packaging unless extra barrier protection is added.
Because the surface is coarse and unglazed, it is not the best option for detailed print, sharp graphics, or packaging that needs a smooth premium finish.
